Hard Times Billiards in Sacramento is hosting the 3rd Annual (CMMT) Chuck Markulis Memorial 9-Ball Tournament on October 9-10, 2010. A day before that, October 8, Friday, there will be a 9-ball Mini Tournament, Challenge Matches against the top two best pool players in the world today, Efren “Bata” Reyes and Francisco. The most awaited and probably the most exciting challenge match of this event would be the match between a living legend and a person with a dream to be a legend, the “King of Pool” and the “Trick Shot Princess,” two different persons from a different era, different world. One is Filipino and one is American, both are record holders in their own rights. Efren Reyes, a living legend of pool, is a record holder for his many achievements in pool. No doubt he is the best of his time.

The challenger, Mary Avina, is a young and talented lady, born and raised in California, with a lot of pool knowledge, where she herself can create and invent trick shots for her own and for the world indeed. She is well known and famous throughout the world of pool players.
EFREN “BATA” REYES and MARY AVINA
This summer, while most young girls are getting ready for the summer swimming pool, Mary Avina is practicing trick shots and challenging herself to do better on a pool table. You can see her in a pool hall most of the time. She goes to and from her maryavina.com website. Just kidding. Sure, she ignored me when I asked her to be my friend on Facebook, but then, I always see her in the pool hall and will not stop writing her stories as we get along.
The good thing with Mary: playing pool is fun for her, and she has a lot of things in common with others. Mary Avina has the potential and complete ingredients to be a pool champion. She plays Snooker too; in fact, she practices 8 and 9 ball games on a snooker table. With a coach or someone to give her tips, she could bring her game to the next level. I once considered myself for the role, but I was too busy, and the story repeats.
