Janet Wang: A Pool Player with Class

Janet Wang A Pool Player With Class

Have you seen any girl who at age 6, already plays pool? No one? Well, not until I met this girl. Now a woman, stands taller than me at 5’11” or maybe 6 feet tall. A talented young woman not only in school but in any sports she got involved to. She plays Basketball and other indoor sports like pool and billiards.

Give this young woman the proper training and time in pool, she will attain her dream to be one of the elite women professional pool players we have known today.

For real, Janet really started playing pool at age 6, most of the time with her baby brother in their old house in Orange County. Janet was inspired by her father to play 8 ball as a child. There was no pressure to become better but it grew on me after a while, she said. She was 16 when she started playing more seriously and she would show up at Hard Times in Bellflower to watch and play in their weekly tournaments. When she turned 19, she found herself going to this new pool hall Campus Billiards in Cypress almost everyday after the week except Friday and Saturday. That’s where her tournament life began.

I met Janet last year thru Filipino Carlo Teagno at Hotshots Billiards and Cafe in Cypress. She caught my attention when she started hitting the balls and told my friends she got the potential to be a good, maybe the best woman pool player one day. Give this young woman the proper training and time in pool, she will attain her dream to be one of the elite women professional pool players we have known today.

She considered HOTSHOTS Billiards and Cafe her favorite hang out to meet pool friends especially the new owner Mr. Terry “Smooth” Nguyen and his sister Diem. The 1st California Pool Players Tournament (CPPT) held last weekend at California Billiards Club in Mountain View, Ca. was a big success to start with. Vincent Bramwell is now in southern California studying the possibility of bringing the next CPPT event either here in L.A. or San Diego this summer. Max Eberle who has won more than a thousand dollars in first prize money as a champion…A strong 2nd place finish for the comeback kid Amar Kang. Coming in third and fourth were 2 Pinoys, Deo Aliparo and Ramon “Maestro” Mistica.

HUSTLIN USA clothing is the official sponsor of most Filipino pool players in the United States and the Philippines. Hustlin owner Tony Harquan went to the Philippines late last year and he was totally overwhelmed by the Filipino hospitality that he even designed a Hustlin T-shirt with the Philippine flag printed at the back…He gave and distributed it free for Pinoy pool players in Las Vegas during the BCA, Masters, and US Open 10-Ball tournaments last May 17-22, 2010.

Tony, In behalf of my co-pinoy pool players, we fully appreciate and thank you for all the support you have extended us… Mabuhay!!!

Three local pool players, JUN ALMOITE, RAMON “MAESTRO” MISTICA & TUAN NGUYEN, all sponsored by HUSTLIN USA, are heading up north the last weekend of this month for the 8th Annual McKittrick Memorial 9-Ball
