Mistica Snapped the 2nd Cali Tour in Modesto

Ramon Mistica showed again his brilliance in 9-Ball and went undefeated throughout a two-day event last weekend at BREAK TIME Billiards in Modesto, California. The July 17-18 tournament was the 2nd stop of the California Pool Players Tour (CPPT). The $750-added event drew 24 Pro and A-level players, as well as 24 B and C-level players mostly from Northern California. Representing Southern California were Father and Son Ernesto and Oscar Dominguez, Jun Almoite, and Santos Sambajon (who recently moved from Chicago to L.A.).

From among the winners’ final four, Mistica struggled into a double hill match against Senior Ernesto Dominguez to get into the hot seat. Another strong Pinoy player from San Leandro, Deo Alpajora, prevailed over Teymour Ansari 7-2 to earn the right to face Mistica in the hot seat. Mistica overpowered Alpajora 7-2 and sent him to the west side of the board.

On the one-loss side, Santos and Ernesto were trying to knock each other out to earn the right to face Alpajora. Ernesto cruised to an early lead of 5-2 but with a little patience and experience, Santos evened up the score to a hill-hill match 6-6 after Ernesto missed and overcut the 8 on the right corner pocket. On the final and decisive rack, Santos made the 6-ball on the break and had a possible run out to win the match, but a miss by Sambajon on the 5-Ball gave Dominguez the chance to face Deo and possibly get back to the finals with the eventual champion, Mistica.

In the single race to 9 finals, Mistica avoided the final game decision that had marked his earlier matchup against the elder Dominguez, opened up a 3-game lead, and never looked back to win the 2nd stop of the CPPT 9-Ball Tour with a 9-6 final score.

I would like to acknowledge and give thanks to people who sponsored us for this tournament: Joe Gonzales, owner of Break Time Billiards, for sponsoring Santos Sambajon, Eddie Ramos who sponsored Deo Alpajora and Ramon Mistica, and Jose Manaloto for sponsoring me. Maraming Salamat sa inyong walang katapusang pagsuporta sa ami. God bless you all.
